BOC-3 Filing

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has offered a BOC-3 filing service for decades, and it's one of the most recognized options in the industry. It charges $99 per year for non-members and is free for ATA members(membership dues start around $500/yr depending on fleet size). FastBOC3 charges $75 one-time, no renewal, ever. The right choice depends on whether you're already paying for ATA membership for other reasons.

The 10-Year Cost Math

YearATA non-memberATA memberFastBOC3
Year 1$99$0 (dues paid)$75
Years 2-10 (9 yrs)$891$0 (dues paid)$0
10-year total$990$0$75

A non-member carrier pays $990 to ATA over a decade for a filing that only legally needs to happen once. FastBOC3 caps that cost at $75. For a single owner-operator or small fleet that doesn't need ATA's other member services (advocacy, conferences, discounted rates), the savings are real.

When ATA is the Right Choice

  • You're already an ATA member. The filing is truly free and you get their substantial process-agent network at no incremental cost.
  • You want industry advocacy. ATA lobbies on federal trucking regulations. If you care about DOT policy shaping, membership may be worth it independently.
  • You need fleet-wide compliance programs. ATA bundles BOC-3 with safety, driver qualification, and CSA score services that can justify the dues for larger carriers.

When FastBOC3 is the Right Choice

  • You're a new carrier or owner-operator. You need the BOC-3 filed fast, cheap, and once — not a recurring annual bill.
  • You don't need ATA's other services. If you're only interested in the BOC-3, paying $99/year is paying for everything else you don't use.
  • You want same-day FMCSA submission. FastBOC3 files within the business day and confirms by email; ATA's turnaround is typically 3-5 business days per their own service documentation.
  • You want a 100% acceptance guarantee. If FMCSA rejects our filing for any reason, we re-file at no cost. ATA doesn't publicly advertise this same guarantee structure.

What Both Services Share

Both FastBOC3 and ATA maintain real process-agent networks in all 48 contiguous states plus DC — meaning if someone serves you legal papers in Oregon or Maine or Alabama, there is a designated person who will actually receive them. Both also submit the filing electronically to the FMCSA and will handle change-of-agent notifications if your designated network ever updates. Neither charges separately for the legal-service delivery when a notification actually arrives (ATA historically added a per-event delivery fee on top of the annual; FastBOC3 does not).

Bottom line: If you're not already an ATA member, FastBOC3 saves you $915 over a decade for the same deliverable. Start your BOC-3 for $75 flat — one-time fee, lifetime coverage.
